Boulder to Jackson

Julie and I are taking a short trip to Yellowstone. Yesterday, we drove from Boulder to Jackson, Wyoming. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera. Fortunately, Julie remembered hers!

We stopped for lunch in Laramie. We're using a 15-year old Lonely Planet guidebook, which has so far been surprisingly up to date. For example, it recommended Jeffrey's Bistro for lunch, which is still in business!


Julie took some nice pictures along the way. We passed through some heavy rain in Southern Wyoming, but eventually the skies cleared.



We even passed through the town of Boulder!


Eventually (finally!) we drove into mountainous terrain.


We arrived in Jackson just before sunset. Our hotel is at the base of some ski slopes. I took this picture of the sunset.


And finally, here I am just before we headed inside for dinner.


Today, we go to the park!

Rockies Game

First, this morning I took a picture of the same tree bud at the bus stop one day later.


I went to a Rockies game this evening with Julie, Tara, and John.


It was Jackie Robinson day, so every player wore the number 42.


Unfortunately for John, the Rockies won.

Surprise

I opened my door this morning to go to work, and ...


discovered it had snowed the night before!

I took a bunch of pictures on my walk to the bus stop.


My bus stop is under the tree on the right.

On the way to trivia Tuesday night ...

as Cora, Trevor and I were walking down the street, Trevor spotted two birds on the peaks of roofs:

We came in second place!


Not bad, considering we thought we had no shot because we were in 9th, then 10th place after the first two scoring breaks.

Another Busy Weekend

Friday night as I was driving home, I saw a nice sunset in my rear view mirror, so I stopped and took some pictures.



Saturday, I went to the Resonance Women's Chorus concert in Boulder. A former coworker, Donna, is in the chorus. My favorite song was a rendition of Queen's Somebody to Love.

Sunday I went snowshoeing with Harald, Roya, and Julie, who's in town for a few weeks -- partly for work at a conference in Boulder; the rest of the time for vacation. We went up to Rocky Mountain National Park, and started from the Bear Lake trail (where I was with Brett in November).


On our drive up to the park, we were concerned there wouldn't be enough snow to snowshoe in, since there was hardly any on the ground between Boulder and Estes Park. But the snow started piling up as we neared Bear Lake, and there was plenty to snowshoe on:


There was a little snow falling, which gave us a nice layer to walk on. However, the sky was gray most of the day, and we couldn't see any mountains.


All in all it was a fun day. I'm tempted to go back in the summer and see what the trail looks like without all that snow!

Tuesday

Tuesday, with Anne back in town, we went to trivia for the first time in about a month. On my walk there (now with sunlight again!) I took some pictures of clouds.

This one is an optical illusion for me -- when I uploaded the photo and looked at it again I thought the dark clouds appeared tiny and close:


For a few days in a row it was cloudy over the mountains and as the sun was setting, it lit the bottoms of those clouds with a soft orange color:


Trivia-wise, we came in sixth place.

A weekend of crazy weather

Saturday felt like the first day of summer, with temperatures almost reaching 80. I met up with Sara and Rich for coffee yesterday morning. We basked in the sun afterwards. Unfortunately, Sara's face was behind her knee in this picture, so I cropped most of her out (keeping just enough of her to prove she was there!).


I walked a new route home, and liked this tree house I saw along the way:

Today felt like the last day of winter. It started raining around 11 am, then the rain soon became large snow flakes. I took these pictures in downtown Louisville around 1 pm:



As I type, it's still snowing, which makes this the perfect time to do my taxes!
