Golf

I went golfing with Harald today. It was only his third time ever, so we went to the local par-3/executive course, the Haystack Mountain Golf Course. Here's Harald hitting a shot in front of Haystack Mountain, which is just north of Boulder.

Unfortunately, his ball is already heading downward by the time I took the picture!

Trip to Socorro

My drive down to Socorro:

One of Jorge's roommates, Carlos, made these corn pancakes for the party Saturday night.

Us sitting around, Jorge opening gifts, and Jorge getting ready to hit the pinata:

And pictures from my drive back home today:

UPDATE: I also just updated my Broncos game post with a picture.

Off to Socorro

I'll head down to Socorro today for my friend Jorge's 30th birthday party. It will be my first time visiting there since I moved away four years ago!

Jorge was a fellow first year grad student when I was there. I stayed with his family in Costa Rica when I went to visit in May 2005. Here is a picture of me from that trip, at Volcan Irazu.

Brandi Carlile

I went to see Brandi Carlile at Chautauqua again this year. Thanks to the "fire hazard", we're not allowed to sit close to the building, and thanks to the "cold weather", they closed the doors, so we weren't able to see Brandi and the sound was muffled. This may be the last time I go to Chautauqua for an outside picnic.

Here's a group picture (that's not very good) of Maria, Safia, Harald, Roya, and Donna:

New Phone

I got a new phone yesterday.

In other news, on my way downtown tonight (to watch the US soccer game vs. Trinidad and Tobago), I took a picture of this cloud:

My first camping trip

I went camping Saturday with Rich, Sara, and Josh. We started a few miles north of Ward just off the Peak to Peak Highway. Here are Rich, Sara, and Josh at the beginning of our trek:

Along our way south, I took these pictures.

These mountains in the distance are the ones right next to Boulder:

We found a camping spot on the southeastern slope of Niwot Ridge. Here Sara and Rich begin preparations for dinner.

We had almost finished dinner when it started raining, then hailing. While I was in the tent, I lifted up the rain fly and blindly took this picture:

This morning, I took this picture of our camp.

Then we retraced our steps back to the car. I think we walked somewhere around 19 miles altogether. Now, I'm exhausted and ready for bed!

Smoke From a Distant Fire

Colorado is in the path of the smoke from the fires in California and Utah.

Last night's sunset was pink.

Sara took this picture of the moon when it was at its zenith:

This morning on my way to work, I took this picture:

Compare that to this picture I took last Dec. 30!
