Evolution of a fire

It was another windy day today, and as Harald and I were coming back from lunch around 1 pm, we noticed a small fire in the foothills north of Boulder. This picture was taken around 1:30 pm:



This video gives you an idea of the winds, which were in the 20-50 mph range at the time.



About an hour later, it looked like the fire was getting bigger.



Then the winds shifted to the north, blowing the fire toward Boulder.



At dusk, you could see the fire through the smoke:



It was still windy.



The darker it got, the harder time I had keeping my camera still enough to take non-blurry pictures.



Rich, however, took a nice clear picture from NOAA around 6 pm:



By the time I left Boulder, the winds had died significantly. Boulder's newspaper says the fire has spread to more than 6400 acres so far. They've evacuated parts of north Boulder.
