Birthday Celebration

I went downtown (Boulder) to celebrate my birthday with a bunch of friends last night. Towards the end of the night, we all headed over to the cowboy bar (I don't know the actual name) to ride the mechanical bull.

Andrew Bird Concert

Thursday night I went with Rich, Armin, and John to the Ogden Theater in Denver to see Andrew Bird. I had only heard a few songs by him, but he sounded like he'd be an interesting performer, and he was. He plays mainly the violin and guitar, and his whistle is as haunting as a theremin. He also used these loop pedals to record background violin parts, whistling, and clapping which he played back during his songs. He had some great 5-part harmony violin sounds.

Oscars Party

My friend Ed from work co-hosted an Oscars party. Once we found out Ed was going to wear a tuxedo, Julie, Sara, and I decided we too had to dress up. Here's a picture of us (L to R, Ed, Julie, Sara, me) soon after we arrived at the party:



It was the first time I've worn my hair in a ponytail in public (with the help of Julie and some hairspray)!

UPDATE: I often forget to credit the photos I use. This one was from Julie's camera, which was on a mini tripod and set to delay so Julie could join in the picture!

Spring is here?

This morning as I was heading out I saw flowers blooming already! We've had a fairly warm winter without much snow, so I guess I'm not too surprised.





Yesterday, I went skiing at Winter Park with a bunch of my CIRES colleagues for our CIRES snow day.

First skiing of the season

Saturday night I went up into the mountains to stay with Wally and Jan, who are friends with Rich and his family. Rich drove Lenore and I up there, where we met up with Ilana and Jackie. In the small world that is Boulder, I met Ilana last year through Rich and Sara, but since January ... she is my new office mate!

Anyway, we skied at Keystone Sunday.
