Last Day of Parents' Visit

I took the day off from work Monday. In the morning, I golfed with my Dad. Here he is admiring either his drive or the Rocky Mountains.

Both the golf course and St. Vrain State Park (where my parents are staying) have pelicans, which I thought was odd. I didn't know they lived this far from the ocean!

No trip with the RV would be complete without the dogs (L to R, Tasha, Suzy, Jackson, Missy, Kelby, and Emy)!

And finally, a nice sunset as we pulled into the campground.

Parents

My parents drove their RV into town this weekend. At first, they had to stay east of the airport (about an hour's drive from me), because all the places near me were full. Today, they moved to Longmont, at the State Park they stayed in last October. Here's a picture of Longs Peak from their camp spot.

Tonight, we went to Hall Ranch to briefly check out the park.

Then we went into Lyons and had dinner at Oskar Blues.

Walk and Bike to Work Day

Today was Walk and Bike to Work Day, so I chose to ... walk to work!

Here's a map
of my approximate route. Note, the altitude profile is from start to finish, or east to west. So I started by going over the big blue Louisville hill!

About every 100 steps I took a picture. I took 132 pictures, which means I took 13,200 steps to work (give or take a hundred)! I compiled the pictures into a 30 second movie:

I left at 6:10 am and arrived in my office at 8:20. Needless to say, I took the bus home this evening!

Louisville Farmer's Market

I rode my bike downtown to the Louisville Farmer's Market today.

I had some crepes for lunch: asparagus with Hollandaise, and a Funky Monkey (banana, peanut butter, and chocolate chips).

Afterwards, I went to a local coffee shop to read my book (I'm almost done!).

Childhood Art 2

Sometime around 7th grade, I embossed a tuba onto a small sheet of brass. We then rubbed some sort of acid on it to make it look older, but it didn't come out very well.

Fast forward to 2005, when my friend Jorge and I were driving back from Salt Lake City to New Mexico, via the Grand Canyon. We passed signs for Tuba City, Arizona, but we were in a rush to see Meteor Crater before sunset, so we didn't have time to detour for a picture. Fortunately, Julie traveled around the Southwest a few months ago, and was kind enough to go out of her way to take a picture of the sign for me!

Now I have a wall devoted to tuba art!

I like this picture, because it also shows a mouthpiece and valve oil:

Concert in the Park

My coworker Andy, who (you may remember) plays the guitar, also organizes the concerts in the park during the summers in Louisville. Today, he brought a Brazilian jazz band to the stage. Another coworker of mine, Ken, plays trumpet in the band. He's standing off to the left of the stage in the black t-shirt:

Unfortunately, my allergies were acting up, and when the clouds came

and it started to rain, I left.

Childhood Art

Among the stuff my parents gave me once I moved into my new place was this drawing I made of the Delta Upsilon fraternity house in Potsdam. I don't remember the exact date, but I think I drew it around 1982 or 1983, when I was in third or fourth grade. I also printed and framed a photograph of the actual house, circa 1978 (there are a few minor differences). Unfortunately, the Google street view car hasn't made it to Potsdam yet, but here is the satellite image of the house. I sat in the park across the street with a few other students.

Here are close-ups of the drawing and photograph:
